The original printing business opened on
December 1, 1902, at 402 East Adams Street, Springfield, Illinois, as The Schnepp & Lauer Co., Dr., Printers, Bookbinders, Stationers. In 1904, the business was moved to larger quarters at 412 East
Adams Street, in the same block as its present location. In 1906, Mr. Barnes bought into the business, creating The Schnepp and Barnes Printers and Binders.
The company bought the building in 1910, and as sales grew, a second story addition was added to the back of the building in 1912. In 1916, a third story was added to handle increased production volume and services.
In 1943, after the death of Mr. Barnes, Mr. Schnepp offered to buy
Mrs. Barnes entire share of the business and the building, and completed the transition in September, 1944.
Since then, this printing company has been handed down from generation to generation in the Schnepp family.
Presently, Skipton Turnbull is president and owner of Schnepp and Barnes Printers, Inc.
